Adani Group to Build Ropeway for Easier Kedarnath Dham Access, Says Gautam Adani

12.9 km Ropeway to Cut Kedarnath Trek From 9 Hours to 36 Minutes, Boost Tourism and Employment

Kedarnath, Oct 15 : The Adani Group is constructing a 12.9 km ropeway to provide easier and safer access for devotees visiting Kedarnath Dham, Chairman Gautam Adani announced on Wednesday.

With a total investment of Rs 4,081 crore, the project will connect Sonprayag to Kedarnath, reducing the traditional 9-hour trek to just 36 minutes. “The difficult climb to Kedarnath Dham will now become easier. The Adani Group is constructing this ropeway to make the pilgrimage simpler and safer for devotees,” Adani said in a post on X.

The project, awarded to Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL) by the National Highways Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML) in September, marks the company’s first ropeway initiative. It is expected to be completed in six years and will be operated by AEL for 29 years post-construction.

Designed to transport 1,800 passengers per hour per direction, the ropeway will serve hundreds of thousands of pilgrims annually. Built under the National Ropeways Development Programme  Parvatmala Pariyojana on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, it is also expected to generate employment and boost tourism in the region.

“This project is a bridge between devotion and modern infrastructure. By making the sacred journey faster, safer, and more accessible, we honour the faith of millions while creating opportunities for Uttarakhand’s people,” Adani said, highlighting the long-term social and economic benefits of the initiative.
