Delhi Court Grants Bail to IYC Chief Uday Bhanu Chib in AI Summit Protest Case
New Delhi, Feb 28: A Delhi court on Saturday granted bail to Indian Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib, who was arrested in connection with the protest staged during the India AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam.
Chib was produced before Duty Magistrate Vanshika Mehta around 1 a.m. after completing four days of police custody that had been granted on February 24. The Delhi Police had sought a seven-day extension of his remand, but the court rejected the request and ordered his release on bail.
Under the AI Summit protest bail order, Chib was granted relief on a surety bond of ₹50,000. The court also directed him to surrender his passport and electronic devices. His counsel stated that the magistrate observed the Crime Branch had failed to justify the need for further custodial interrogation.
The case pertains to a protest held inside the summit venue, where members of the youth wing allegedly removed their shirts to display T-shirts carrying slogans critical of the central government and the India-US trade deal. Authorities have also alleged that a scuffle broke out between protesters and security personnel at the event.
The AI Impact Summit, which began on February 16, drew technology leaders, policymakers and industry stakeholders from across the country and abroad.
