AIADMK Defers Protest Over DMK’s SIR Misconduct to Nov 20 Following Rain Alert

Party cites Chennai Met Department’s warning, vows to continue fight against alleged DMK interference in Special Intensive Revision.

Chennai, Nov 17 : The AIADMK has postponed its planned protest near Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore after the Chennai Meteorological Department issued a heavy rain alert for the city.

The demonstration, originally scheduled for Monday, was aimed at condemning what the party alleges are serious irregularities committed by ruling DMK functionaries during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

In a statement, the AIADMK said its cadres across several neighbourhoods have raised concerns about DMK members allegedly interfering with the verification process, influencing officials, obstructing genuine voters, and attempting to manipulate the inclusion or deletion of names in the electoral rolls.

The protest was expected to see district secretaries, area organisers, and cadres assemble at Rajarathinam Stadium to push the Election Commission to intervene and ensure a free, fair and transparent SIR process without political pressure.

However, with meteorologists warning of heavy rainfall due to an active weather system over the Bay of Bengal, the AIADMK said it was compelled to defer the protest. The party noted that potential traffic disruption and safety concerns made it unsuitable to hold a mass gathering.

Reiterating that the demonstration has been postponed and not cancelled, the AIADMK announced that the protest will now be held on November 20 at the same venue. Party leaders have urged cadres to stay prepared and reaffirmed their commitment to exposing what they describe as systematic violations by DMK functionaries during the voter roll verification drive.

AIADMK sources expressed hope that the Election Commission will take note of the allegations and enhance monitoring to protect the integrity of the SIR process. Senior leaders and district representatives are expected to participate in the rescheduled protest.
