Akhilesh Yadav Questions BJP’s GST Revenue Distribution Plan

SP chief raises 10 pointed questions on how GST profits will be allocated, alleging public exploitation over the past decade.

LUCKNOW, Sept 22: Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav on Monday questioned the BJP government’s plan to distribute profits from the Goods and Services Tax (GST), alleging that the ruling party is attempting to win over voters with token measures after a decade of heavy taxation.

In a post on his WhatsApp channel, Yadav posed 10 pointed questions regarding the allocation of GST funds collected over the past eight years. Among his queries, he asked whether the profits will be distributed directly to households like the “Mahakumbh model”, adjusted in insurance premiums, paid via Direct Benefit Transfer, used to waive school fees, provide free medical care, or added to the BJP’s “Jumlakosh” fund allegedly meant for political promises.

Yadav accused the BJP of having “looted the public for 10 years through heavy taxes” and claimed that the party is now trying to woo citizens with token sops. “The BJP government entangled businesses and traders in a flawed GST system, made huge profits through high GST, and allowed profiteering,” he said.

The BJP, however, maintains that GST reforms are intended to simplify the tax structure, reduce prices, and boost economic growth. Opposition parties, including the SP and Congress, have dismissed the government’s move as “inadequate” and a temporary solution, rather than a meaningful economic measure.
