All J&K Christian Sabha along with DOM organised Round Table Conference; protection of Constitution, restoration of statehood prioritized
Jammu, 19.03.23: A round table conference was organized today at Jammu by Ashu Peter Mattoo, President All J&K Christian Sabha along with Dalit OBC Minorities (DOM), a wing of All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organisations for the protection of Constitution, Democracy under the slogan of “Sath Chalo, Milkar Lado”.
RK Kalsotra, President Confederation and DOM was welcomed by Ashu Peter and later Kalsotra presented the agendas. These included the protection of the Constitution & Democracy, Reservation of depressed Christians, Stoppage of the Collegium System & Reservation in higher Judiciary, higher education, Promotions, prohibition of Contractual System in Govt dept., restoration of statehood, Toto Mandal Commission report & Caste Census, Prohibition on Dalit oppression (Atrocities on Minorities), Burial land Issue, Prohibition on privatization, Prohibition of Land allotment of poor, unemployment, issued related to health, Naming New Parliament house in the name of Baba Saheb Ambedkar and other issues. The recent attacks on Christianity and rising cases of atrocities were condemned during the conference and it was brought to light that their rights should be protected as enshrined in the constitution.
Three major resolutions were passed at the conference. One was to restore the statehood of J&K. Two was to name new Parliament House as Dr. BR Ambedkar Parliament House. The Third was to focus on safeguarding the Constitution and democracy by addressing all the aforementioned issues in the agenda.
Kalsotra mentioned that BR Ambedkar had participated in three round table conferences on 1930,1931,1932 during the Colonial Era to fight for the rights of the downtrodden. He participated in them to promote the rights of Dalits. Only after these provisions for the Dalits were added in the constitution of India. But now they are under threat and thus, Confederation and DOM has taken it upon itself to revive these rights and stop their further dilution. It can be continued with continuous support from the people and hence, their participation in such functions is duly appreciated and necessary.
Participants said that these conferences should be converted into a revolution for social justice. And more places should be reached where we can hold these conferences and start a conversation around how we can continue Dr BR Ambedkar’s legacy.
