Allahabad Journalist Murder: One Suspect Arrested Following Police Encounter
L N Singh, known as Pappu, killed in Civil Lines; police nab main accused Vishal after retaliatory gunfire
Allahabad, Oct 24 : Allahabad witnessed a shocking incident late Thursday night as journalist L N Singh, popularly known as Pappu, was fatally attacked with sharp weapons near Harsh Hotel in the Civil Lines area. Singh was rushed to SRN Hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment, police said on Friday.
The attack reportedly occurred around 10:30 pm following an altercation with a group of youths. Eyewitnesses indicated that Singh had gone to GHS Road for work when a confrontation with a man named Sahil and his associates escalated violently. Preliminary investigations suggest Singh had a prior disagreement with the group a day earlier.
Within two hours of the incident, a joint police team apprehended one of the primary suspects, Vishal, near Nehru Park after an encounter. Vishal sustained a leg injury during the arrest and is currently receiving medical care under police custody. CCTV footage and tip-offs played a crucial role in tracking him down.
Police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to locate the other suspects and establish the full motive behind the attack. Dr Ajaypal Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), stated that Vishal will be interrogated once his condition stabilizes.
Singh, originally from Ballia, had been living in Shakuntala Kunj Colony near Mundera Chungi in Dhoomanganj for several years. His uncle, senior advocate Ashok Singh, said the journalist had called for help during the attack, but despite immediate assistance, doctors could not save him.
