Shah Challenges Congress on Kashmir: 'BJP Stands Firm Against Terrorist Release and Article 370 Revival'
Haryana, Sep 17: During a rally in Bhiwani, Haryana, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of aligning with the National Conference (NC) to implement an agenda aimed at releasing terrorists post-elections in Jammu and Kashmir and reinstating Article 370. Shah challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to clarify whether the abrogation of Article 370 was beneficial for the region, underscoring the BJP’s firm stance against the reinstatement of this provision.
Shah highlighted that the Congress, under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, had forged an alliance with NC leader Omar Abdullah, alleging that their joint objective includes not only the release of terrorists but also negotiations with Pakistan. He pointed out that any attempt to bring back Article 370 would be resisted, asserting that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the security and territorial integrity of Kashmir are non-negotiable.
Referring to the ongoing assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Shah framed the Congress-NC agenda as a direct threat to national security, accusing the opposition of attempting to reverse the hard-fought gains achieved by the BJP in Kashmir. “Rahul Gandhi and Omar Abdullah want to revive terrorism in Kashmir by releasing extremists,” Shah said, urging voters to reject such alliances that he claimed would destabilize the region.
The home minister also took a swipe at Rahul Gandhi’s comments regarding reservation during a recent visit to the United States, criticizing him for allegedly undermining the importance of affirmative action in India. Shah reiterated the BJP’s commitment to protecting reservation policies, particularly for marginalized communities, ensuring that any rollback of these provisions would not happen under the Modi government.
In his speech, Shah also lauded the BJP’s achievements, from the implementation of the ‘One Rank One Pension’ scheme to the Agnipath recruitment initiative. He accused the Congress of playing politics with both policies, particularly Agnipath, which he described as a forward-looking step in military recruitment. Shah assured that those recruited through the scheme, known as Agniveers, would receive reservations in government jobs, including police forces. He urged the youth of Haryana not to be swayed by what he described as Congress’s “misinformation” about the scheme, affirming that the BJP stands by its promise to ensure job security for returning Agniveers.
Shah’s speech also touched upon Haryana’s agricultural and sports achievements, praising the state’s farmers for their contribution to India’s food security and its athletes for bringing glory to the nation on the international stage. He contrasted this progress with what he characterized as the Congress’s failures during its years in power, particularly in Haryana, where he claimed that corruption and favoritism were rampant in public sector job appointments.
The home minister’s remarks were also aimed at deepening the divide within the Congress party, referencing its internal leadership struggles, and casting doubt on its ability to govern effectively. Shah concluded by expressing confidence that the BJP would retain power in the upcoming elections, both in Jammu and Kashmir and in Haryana, while criticizing the Congress’s alleged lack of vision and unity.
