Amit Shah Vows Zero Tolerance for Criminals Operating from Abroad
Amit Shah stresses global accountability for criminals, economic offenders, and cyber fugitives
New Delhi, Oct 16: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards criminals operating from foreign lands, underlining the need for swift and decisive action against economic offenders, cyber criminals, terror operatives, and other fugitives to ensure they face justice in India.
Addressing the conference on ‘Extradition of Fugitives Challenges and Strategies’ organized by the CBI, Shah said that India must adopt a “ruthless approach” against all offenders who evade law by fleeing abroad. “Whether they are economic offenders, cyber criminals, those involved in terrorism, or members of organised crime networks, every fugitive must be brought before the Indian justice system. The time for action is now,” he asserted.
Shah highlighted that the Narendra Modi government has implemented foolproof measures to prevent offenders from escaping the reach of law. “Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, a strong India is advancing not only to secure its borders but also to reinforce the rule of law,” he said.
Pointing to the evolving tactics of criminals, the Home Minister stressed that the reach of justice must always outpace criminal ingenuity. He further urged all states to establish at least one prison facility of international standards to pre-empt claims of inadequate incarceration conditions by fugitives in foreign courts.
Shah’s remarks underscore India’s determined approach to holding criminals accountable globally, signaling heightened efforts to strengthen extradition mechanisms and international cooperation in criminal justice.
