Anantnag Drug Bust: J&K Police Seize 13 Kg Charas, Six Accused Arrested
Coordinated police operations across south Kashmir expose multiple drug networks; over 13 kg of contraband recovered
SRINAGAR, Apr 16: In a major Anantnag drug crackdown, Jammu and Kashmir Police dismantled an active narcotics network in south Kashmir, arresting six alleged peddlers and seizing more than 13 kilograms of charas along with a small quantity of heroin.
According to officials, the breakthrough came after a series of well-coordinated operations conducted at multiple locations across the district. The कार्रवाई led to the registration of five separate cases, marking a significant escalation in the region’s ongoing anti-narcotics drive.
Acting on credible intelligence inputs, a police team from Srigufwara Police Station carried out a targeted raid at the residence of a suspect in Dachigam area. During the search operation, officers recovered nearly two kilograms of charas-like substance, dealing a major blow to local drug distribution channels.
In another operation, law enforcement personnel set up a checkpoint at Shakras in Srigufwara. During routine verification, a suspect was intercepted and found in possession of approximately two kilograms of contraband. Continuing the momentum, police conducted another interception at Pethnoo Crossing, where a third accused was apprehended. A similar quantity of charas-like substance was recovered, indicating a pattern of organized movement of narcotics within the district.
The Anantnag drug crackdown further expanded when a police team intercepted a passenger auto at Iqbal Market near Mill Mod. Upon searching the vehicle, officers detained two individuals and recovered a small quantity of heroin from their possession. The arrests pointed to the involvement of multiple carriers operating within urban pockets.
In a separate and significant seizure, police apprehended another individual at K.V Pora Marhama while he was reportedly heading towards National Highway-44. A thorough search of his belongings led to the recovery of over 7.8 kilograms of charas-like substance, marking the largest single seizure in the سلسلة of operations.
Officials confirmed that all accused have been taken into custody and formal cases have been registered under relevant provisions of law. Preliminary investigation suggests the existence of a wider network, with efforts underway to trace forward and backward linkages.
Police authorities reiterated their commitment to sustaining the Anantnag drug crackdown, emphasizing that strict and continuous action will be taken against those involved in narcotics trafficking. The intensified campaign aims to curb the spread of drugs and protect the youth from the growing menace of substance abuse.
