BADC Demands Relief, Rehabilitation Package for Land Slide Victims of Mendhar
Jammu, 11/09/2025: The Jammu and Kashmir Border Area Development Conference (JKBADC), a registered organisation working for the welfare of border residents and the tribal population of J&K, has appealed to the Union Government and the UT administration to announce an adequate relief and rehabilitation package for the victims of the devastating landslide in Mendhar town of district Poonch.
As per media reports, on Tuesday, a massive landslide caused by incessant rains led to the collapse of nearly 100 infrastructures including houses, a mosque, and schools in village Kotli Kalaban, Mendhar.
In a fervent appeal, Dr. Shazad Ahmed Malik, Chairman of JKBADC and former Vice Chancellor, urged the government to take immediate measures for the affected population. He said, “All those affected are poor tribals who have lost everything. Since May 2025, the people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially those living in border areas, are continuously facing calamities; first the India-Pakistan conflict, then heavy rains and floods, and now this devastating landsinking. These victims have nothing left, and it is the responsibility of the government as well as civil society to extend a helping hand.”
Dr. Shazad further stressed the need for a long-term comprehensive relief package for the entire Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, pointing out that the recent floods have impacted almost every region.
He further appealed to the political leadership across all parties to rise above political differences at this critical juncture and work collectively to ensure timely relief measures for the affected population.
