Anurag Thakur Accuses Jack Dorsey of Covering Up Past Misdeeds with False Allegations

Twitter Files Expose Misuse and Bias on Platform, Says Union Minister Anurag Thakur

13-06-2023 : Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur has accused Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey of attempting to conceal past misdeeds by making “false” allegations. Thakur stated that internal communications within Twitter had exposed the misuse of the platform, including bias and manipulation. He dismissed Dorsey’s claim that the Indian government had pressured Twitter with threats of shutdowns and raids on employees to comply with content takedown requests and account restrictions. Thakur emphasized that during elections, various “foreign forces” try to disrupt the democratic process, but their attempts have failed in the past and will continue to fail in the future. He expressed confidence in the nation’s stability under the leadership of a strong leader and stressed that both domestic and international elements would be unable to destabilize the country.

Thakur accused Dorsey of waking up from a deep slumber and using allegations to cover up his own questionable actions. He labeled Dorsey’s claims as false and asserted that the “Twitter files,” internal communications released by billionaire Elon Musk after he took over Twitter, exposed the platform’s misuse, bias, and manipulation. Thakur reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding the provisions of Articles 14 and 19 of the Constitution, ensuring equal treatment under the law.

Regarding the wrestling controversy, Thakur mentioned that he held discussions with three wrestlers and formed an ad hoc committee to manage the day-to-day activities of the wrestling federation, based on their demands. He expressed satisfaction with the swift conduct of trials and the performance of Indian wrestlers. Thakur assured transparency in the ongoing police investigation related to the matter and stated that the charge sheet would be filed soon.

When asked about the reduction in the borrowing limit of the Himachal Pradesh government, Thakur explained that the borrowing limit had been increased from 3% to 3.3% during the COVID-19 pandemic. He clarified that the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) rules apply to all states, and it was necessary to bring the borrowing within permissible limits.
