Arms, Drug Smuggling Racket Busted in Amritsar, Five Arrested
Five accused arrested; police seize pistols, heroin, and nearly ₹12 lakh in suspected drug money
Chandigarh, Feb 9: Punjab Police have dismantled a cross border arms and narcotics smuggling module in Amritsar, arresting five individuals during an intelligence driven operation, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Monday.
The operation led to the seizure of six sophisticated pistols, 10 live cartridges, 115 grams of heroin, and ₹11.90 lakh believed to be linked to drug trafficking. Authorities described the action as part of an ongoing crackdown on organised crime networks operating along the border.
Sharing details on social media, the DGP said the Amritsar Commissionerate Police conducted the raid under the campaign against gang and drug activity, successfully dismantling the illegal network.
Preliminary findings indicate that the accused maintained active connections with a cross-border syndicate and were engaged in the illicit trade of weapons and narcotics. Investigators are now working to uncover both forward and backward linkages to identify other members of the network.
Police have registered an FIR at Cantonment Police Station under relevant provisions of the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the operation and its possible international ties.
