Army Inaugurates Next-Gen Vehicle Logistics Hub in Leh to Enhance Operational Readiness
The ‘mother hub’ in Leh, with satellite centres in Kargil, Tangtse, and Nyoma, will enhance vehicle maintenance and logistics efficiency along sensitive borders.
Leh/Jammu, Oct 16: The Indian Army has inaugurated a state of the art Next Generation Vehicle (NGV) Logistics Hub in Leh, designed to boost operational readiness and sustain high-altitude mobility across Ladakh’s challenging terrain. Satellite hubs are also planned in key forward areas, including Kargil, Tangtse, and Nyoma, along the India–Pakistan and India–China borders.
The logistics hub was inaugurated by Lieutenant General Hitesh Bhalla, General Officer Commanding, Fire and Fury Corps. A defence spokesperson described the initiative as “a major leap towards enhancing high-altitude operational readiness.”
Built to address the extreme logistical and maintenance challenges of operating modern NGVs in regions that remain cut off for up to six months due to harsh winters, the facility integrates a centralised system for logistics, equipment sustenance, and spare management. This is expected to significantly reduce turnaround time and improve operational sustainability.
Located at the intersection of multiple operational axes, the Leh ‘mother hub’ is strategically positioned with strong air connectivity, serving as the primary centre for major repairs, diagnostics, and warehousing of critical spares.
To ensure immediate technical support, representatives from six leading defence industry partners Tata Advanced Systems Ltd, Mahindra Defence Systems Ltd, Polaris, Bharat Forge Ltd, JSW Gecko Motors Pvt Ltd, and JCBL Group will be stationed at the site. Their presence will enable faster issue resolution, on site repairs, and streamlined warranty management.
The new facility marks a significant step in strengthening India’s military logistics network in high-altitude regions and reflects the Army’s focus on technological advancement and self reliant defence infrastructure.
