Army Thwarts Infiltration in Kupwara’s Keran Sector, Two Terrorists Neutralized
Alert troops neutralize terrorists after gunfight along LoC, second infiltration bid stopped in a month in Jammu and Kashmir.
Srinagar, Nov 8: Two unidentified terrorists were killed after security forces foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector of Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir, the Army confirmed on Friday.
The encounter erupted late Thursday night when alert troops spotted suspicious movement near the LoC and challenged the infiltrators, who opened indiscriminate fire. The troops retaliated, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.
“Two terrorists have been neutralised by the security forces in the ongoing operation,” said the Army’s Srinagar based Chinar Corps on X.
According to the Army, the operation was launched on November 7 based on specific intelligence inputs about a possible infiltration bid. “Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged the individuals, which led to terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Contact was established and the terrorists were trapped,” the Chinar Corps added.
This marks the second infiltration attempt foiled in Kupwara district within a month. On October 14, two infiltrators were killed in the Machil sector of the district.
Terrorist groups often escalate infiltration attempts along the LoC before heavy snowfall closes high altitude passes, making cross-border movement increasingly difficult during the winter months.
