Ashwini Vaishnaw Unveils ‘New Delhi Frontier AI Commitments’ at India AI Impact Summit

Voluntary framework aims to promote inclusive, multilingual, and development-oriented AI across the Global South.

New Delhi, February 19, 2026: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday unveiled the New Delhi Frontier AI Commitments, describing them as a major outcome of the India AI Impact Summit 2026. The initiative brings together leading global and Indian frontier AI companies under a shared voluntary framework focused on inclusive and responsible artificial intelligence development.

Calling it a significant milestone, Vaishnaw said the commitments reflect a collaborative approach toward ensuring AI benefits are widely shared. The first pledge focuses on advancing real-world AI applications using anonymised and aggregated insights to support evidence-based policymaking, particularly in areas such as employment trends, skills development, and regulatory planning.

The second commitment centres on strengthening multilingual and use-case evaluations, ensuring AI systems perform effectively across diverse languages and cultural contexts. Vaishnaw noted that this aspect is particularly critical for countries in the Global South, where linguistic diversity presents unique challenges and opportunities.

He emphasised that the framework aims to shape AI that is powerful yet inclusive, development-driven, and globally relevant.

Following the announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posed for a group photograph with global technology leaders, including Sundar Pichai (CEO of Google and Alphabet), Sam Altman (CEO of OpenAI), Alexandr Wang (Chief AI Officer of Meta), and Dario Amodei (CEO of Anthropic), highlighting international participation at the summit.

The five-day gathering, running from February 16 to 20, is structured around three pillars People, Planet, and Progress and seeks to harness artificial intelligence to address global challenges while promoting shared growth.
