Asia’s largest tulip garden in Srinagar to reopen on March 19

Kashmir's famous tulip garden prepares to open for tourists after meticulous grooming

11-03-2023 : The largest tulip garden in Asia is set to reopen in Srinagar, marking the beginning of the new tourist season in the valley. The garden is expected to open on March 19 and will feature around 1.6 million tulips of 68 varieties that are set to mesmerize visitors this year. The director of floriculture, Farooq Ahmad Rather, has stated that the garden has been meticulously maintained and groomed to create an idyllic and serene atmosphere for visitors. He added that the trees have been pruned and manicured to perfection, allowing visitors to bask in the beauty of the verdant surroundings.

The garden has been awarded the title of second-best tulip garden in 2015 and has become a must-visit tourist attraction. The authorities are expecting even more visitors this year due to increased promotion and a positive response from visitors in the past. Last year, the garden received around 3 lakh visitors. This year, public amenities such as potable drinking water and shelters to shield visitors from the rain have been made available. Public utilities such as water ROs, ATMs, and hygienic restrooms have also been installed.

Mohammad Yousuf Khan, the head gardener, has stated that his team is working at its full potential to ensure that the garden is open on time. He added that his team takes great pleasure in seeing people enjoy the views and colorful displays. He further mentioned that the garden is a labor of love for them, and they spend countless hours planting, pruning, and nurturing the plants to create a space that is not only beautiful but also peaceful and refreshing.

To ensure that the garden remains clean and beautiful, visitors have been requested not to bring plastic or food items into the garden, as it may litter and spoil the serene environment. Sufficient food facilities are available outside the garden, and visitors can book their tickets online. Visitors have also been requested to plan their visit on weekdays instead of weekends to avoid overcrowding.

The tulip garden offers a plethora of healthy and vibrant flowers in a pristine and sanitized environment, ensuring maximum comfort and convenience for visitors. The authorities have ensured that visitors can enjoy the garden even during sudden downpours by providing rain shelters. This year, the head gardener and his team have introduced four new varieties of tulips, adding even more color and variety to the garden’s already impressive collection.
