Assam CM Himanta Meets Amit Shah to Review Flood Relief and Rehabilitation
Union Home Minister assures Assam of Centre’s support for relief, restoration and rehabilitation in flood hit areas.
NEW DELHI, Aug 25: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Sunday and briefed him on the extensive damage caused by the recent floods in the state.
During the meeting, Sarma outlined the scale of destruction and updated Shah on measures undertaken by the Assam Government for relief, rehabilitation and restoration in the affected areas.
Shah acknowledged the severity of the situation and assured the state government of the Centre’s full support in carrying out rehabilitation and restoration work, according to the Assam Chief Minister.
Sarma said the Union Home Minister had maintained regular communication with the state administration throughout the flood crisis and remained closely involved in monitoring the situation.
In a post on X following the meeting, Sarma said he had briefed Shah on the state’s flood response along with other matters concerning Assam.
The Chief Minister said Shah recognised the extent of the damage during their discussion and reiterated the Government of India’s commitment to supporting recovery efforts in the flood affected regions.
Sarma also praised Shah’s detailed approach to issues concerning Assam, describing his guidance and continued support as valuable to the state.
The meeting comes as Assam continues efforts to restore essential services and rehabilitate communities affected by the recent flooding.
