Assam CM Says Singapore Toxicology Report on Zubeen Garg’s Death Handed Over to SIT
Chief Minister says SIT has made substantial progress; chargesheet likely before December 15 as probe into the singer’s mysterious death nears completion.
Guwahati, Nov 1: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday confirmed that the Singapore government has sent the toxicology report related to the death of renowned singer and filmmaker Zubeen Garg to the state’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
While the report has been officially forwarded, it is yet to physically reach Guwahati, where a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is leading a comprehensive probe into the case.
“The SIT has made substantial progress and is working day and night to ensure justice for Zubeen Garg,” Sarma said, adding that the chargesheet is expected to be filed within the stipulated timeframe.
Zubeen Garg’s sudden death on September 19 in Singapore, during a private yacht trip, sent shockwaves across Assam and the entire Northeast. Following his demise, the state government ordered a high-level investigation to uncover the exact circumstances behind the tragedy.
His mortal remains were brought back to Guwahati, where thousands of fans gathered to bid farewell. His ashes were later immersed in the Brahmaputra River by his wife, Garima Garg, and family members.
The SIT, led by senior CID officers, has already made several arrests linked to alleged evidence tampering and concealment. Those in custody include festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garg’s manager Siddharth Sarma, two of his bandmates — Shekharjyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta, as well as Garg’s cousin Sandipan Garg and two personal security officers who accompanied him to Singapore.
Amid growing public speculation, CM Sarma urged citizens to trust the investigation process.
“Those who question justice for Zubeen Garg should wait until December 15. The SIT’s diligent work will speak for itself,” he said.
The Chief Minister also cautioned against politicising the case, asserting that “justice will prevail.”
In a separate remark during the same media interaction, Sarma took a political swipe at Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, accusing him of “acting as a Pakistani agent.”
