At Least 11 Indians Among 300 Injured in Saudi Airport Attack That Killed 12
India condemns repeated strikes on King Khalid International Airport, urges an immediate halt to attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, and contacts Saudi authorities to check on injured Indian nationals.
DUBAI, Oct 11: At least 11 Indian nationals were injured in an attack on Saudi Arabia’s King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh that killed 12 people and left more than 300 others injured, the Indian Embassy said on Sunday.
The embassy said it was closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with local authorities to obtain information about the condition of the injured Indians. Indian officials have also contacted hospital authorities to check on those receiving treatment.
In a statement posted on social media, the embassy condemned the incident, describing it as a “dastardly attack”, and confirmed that it was taking steps to ensure the well-being of the affected Indian nationals.
The latest incident comes amid a series of attacks targeting the airport over the past week, raising concerns about the safety of civilians and critical infrastructure in the Gulf region.
The 12 people killed in the attack included four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshi nationals, and one citizen each from Palestine, the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Sudan.
India strongly condemned the repeated attacks on Riyadh’s airport, calling for an immediate end to strikes against civilians and civilian infrastructure.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in a statement issued on Sunday, denounced the attacks carried out over the preceding days, including the October 10 incident, which resulted in fatalities, injuries and damage to property.
The ministry extended condolences to the families of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
“We stand in solidarity with the people and the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in defence of their sovereignty, and hope that peace and normalcy returns to the region at the earliest,” the MEA said.
Saudi Arabia has blamed Houthi militants for the attack. The repeated incidents have heightened security concerns, particularly for foreign nationals living and working in the kingdom.
Earlier, on Thursday, the Indian Embassy issued a security advisory for Indian citizens in Saudi Arabia, urging them to remain alert, exercise caution and stay indoors whenever necessary. Nationals were also advised to follow all instructions and safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
The embassy’s latest update underscores India’s concern for the safety of its citizens amid the deteriorating security situation. New Delhi has called for an immediate cessation of attacks and expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia as efforts continue to assess the impact of the incident and provide assistance to those affected.
