ATC Glitch Disrupts Flight Operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport
Technical snag in Air Traffic Control system triggers delays across airlines, authorities working to restore normalcy
New Delhi, Nov 7 — Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) were severely disrupted on Friday following a technical glitch in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, leading to significant delays across multiple airlines.
The malfunction forced ATC officials to issue manual flight clearances, resulting in congestion and longer wait times both at the terminal and on aircraft.
Delhi Airport, in an update posted on X, said: “Due to a technical issue with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, flight operations at IGIA are experiencing delays. Our team is actively working with all stakeholders, including DIAL, to resolve the issue at the earliest.”
Passengers have been advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest flight updates.
Several airlines also confirmed widespread disruptions. SpiceJet posted on X: “Due to ATC congestion at Delhi, all departures, arrivals, and consequential flights might be affected.”
IndiGo said in a statement: “Flight operations at Delhi Airport are currently experiencing delays due to a technical issue with the ATC system. As a result, flight operations at Delhi and several northern regions are impacted. We understand that extended wait times, both on the ground and onboard, may cause inconvenience, and we sincerely appreciate your patience.”
Air India too reported similar difficulties, saying: “A technical issue with the ATC system in Delhi is impacting flight operations across all airlines, leading to delays and longer wait times. We regret the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen disruption and appreciate passengers’ patience.”
Airport and airline authorities are coordinating to restore normal operations and minimize passenger inconvenience as technical teams work to fix the ATC issue.
