Former Aussie all rounder expects fans to honor Indian batting legends as they face Australia in Perth
Australia, Oct 16 : Former Australian all rounder Shane Watson has suggested that the upcoming ODI series between India and Australia could be the last tour Down Under for India’s batting stalwarts, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Watson believes the Australian cricket loving public will show immense respect and admiration for the duo, acknowledging their contributions to the sport over the years.
Both Rohit and Kohli, currently playing only the ODI format for India, will lead the team in the three-match series starting October 19 in Perth. The pair were last seen in action during India’s 2025 Champions Trophy triumph.
Watson said, “This indeed could be Rohit and Virat’s last trip Down Under. The Australian public genuinely appreciates how incredibly good they are. Virat has always performed against Australia, and Rohit is a leader and a performer. The fans will surely show their love and respect for both.”
The former all rounder also noted the challenge for the duo in adjusting to the international ODI format exclusively. “Rohit and Virat are among the top five ODI batters in ICC rankings, but now that they’re only playing one format, it might take time to find the right rhythm against world-class bowlers. However, once they settle in, their class and consistency will shine,” Watson said.
He further highlighted India’s unbeaten streak in ODIs this year and credited head coach Gautam Gambhir for fostering a fearless and expressive playing style. “GG has allowed players to perform without fear of mistakes. That approach has unlocked India’s full potential, making them dominant this year,” he added.
Reflecting on the upcoming series, Watson said, “Australia can break India’s unbeaten run, but they will need to be at their absolute best. India is playing exceptionally well, and it’s going to be a thrilling series to watch.”
