Avalanche warning issued for 4 districts in J&K

The official said the danger of avalanches in higher reaches starts normally once the weather clears out.

Srinagar, Nov 16 — Avalanche warnings were issued on Monday for four districts of Jammu & Kashmir following fresh rain and snowfall in the Union Territory.

A medium danger avalanche warning has been issued for Kupwara and Baramulla districts while a low danger warning has been issued for Bandipora and Ganderbal districts.

Officials said the warning shall remain in force during the next 48 hours.

“People are advised not to move out unnecessarily in higher reaches of these districts during the next 48 hours,” an official of the provincial administration said.

After two days of rain and snowfall, the weather in J&K has improved. Met officials said except for scattered rain/snow at isolated places, there would be no major change in general weather conditions during the next 7 days.

The Disaster Management Authority today issued a Medium Danger Avalanche Warning for the higher reaches of Kupwara and Bandipora districts.

 As per the statement issued here, it has informed that the Low Danger Avalanche Warning continues to exist for the higher reaches of Baramulla and Ganderbal districts.

The people living in these avalanche-prone areas have been advised to take precautionary measures and not to venture out in the avalanche-prone areas.
