B-Tech Student Jumps to Death from Greater Noida Building After Being Scolded for Coming Back Drunk
Second year student reportedly upset after being reprimanded by hostel authorities and father; police launch investigation into the incident.
GREATER NOIDA, Jan 24: A second year B-Tech student, Udit Soni, from Jhansi, died after allegedly jumping from the fourth floor of a hostel in Knowledge Park-3 C late Friday night, officials said on Saturday.
According to authorities, Udit had returned to the hostel late with friends after reportedly consuming alcohol. Hostel management noticed his condition, reprimanded him for violating rules, and recorded a video of the confrontation, which was sent to his father.
Following a phone call from his father, in which Udit was reportedly scolded and warned about being removed from college rolls, the student allegedly jumped from the building. He was taken to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Additional DCP Sudhir Kumar said the police are investigating the incident from all angles. “His body has been taken for a post-mortem. We are interrogating people who knew him, and investigations are underway,” he said.
A friend of the deceased claimed that Udit was physically assaulted by hostel staff during the reprimand, which left him distressed. The students reportedly reacted by vandalising hostel property and buses.
Authorities continue to probe the case, and further details are awaited.
