Babri Demolition Anniversary: UP on High Alert; Security Tightened in Ayodhya, Kashi & Mathura

Security Tightened in Ayodhya, Kashi & Mathura; Multi-layered Surveillance in Sensitive Districts

UP, Dec 06 : Uttar Pradesh has been placed under an extensive security blanket on Saturday in view of the anniversary of the Babri mosque demolition on December 6. Police and administrative authorities have intensified vigilance across sensitive districts, including Ayodhya, Kashi (Varanasi), and Mathura, to ensure peace and order.

In Ayodhya, police presence has been significantly enhanced since December 4. SSP Gaurav Grover said all police stations are operating on high alert, with strict checking underway at hotels, dhabas, guesthouses, and incoming vehicles. Security will remain heightened until December 6 to avoid any disruption to public life.

Mathura has also witnessed reinforced deployment due to the Krishna Janmabhoomi Shahi Eidgah dispute. DIG Shailesh Kumar Pandey reviewed preparedness and directed continuous surveillance via drone monitoring at key sites, including the Janmabhoomi complex. SSP Shlok Kumar said the city has been divided into zones and sectors, each under senior officers’ supervision. Additional PAC, RAF, and specialised units have been deployed.

Across UP including Lucknow, Meerut, Aligarh, Agra, Kanpur, and Prayagraj security agencies are conducting surprise checks at police stations and increasing vigilance at transit hubs and crowded areas. The recent Delhi car bomb blast with alleged UP links has further prompted heightened intelligence activity.

December 6 is observed as “Shaurya Diwas” by some groups and “Black Day” by several Muslim organisations, prompting annual precautionary measures. This year, too, authorities have enforced strict monitoring to prevent any untoward activity and maintain communal harmony.
