Baloch Activist Flags Urgent Health Crisis of Disabled Leader

Activist accuses Pakistani authorities of denying urgent medical care to wheelchair-bound Bebigar Baloch, calls for international intervention.

Prominent human rights activist Sammi Deen Baloch has sounded an alarm over the worsening condition of Bebigar Baloch, a disabled leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), who has been held in state custody for six months without formal charges.

In a statement on X, Sammi accused Pakistani authorities of subjecting Bebigar   who is permanently disabled and wheelchair bound  to inhumane treatment by denying him access to critical medical care. She said doctors have recommended immediate surgery, but both prison officials and judicial authorities have failed to act. “Keeping him in jail under these conditions is effectively a slow death sentence,” she warned.

Sammi further condemned what she described as the state’s “ruthless suppression of political dissent in Balochistan”, adding that authorities have blurred the line between ordinary citizens and the disabled in their crackdown. “Those who have engaged in peaceful politics, fought for rights, and questioned the state are being targeted without mercy,” she said.

Appealing to the international community, Sammi urged human rights organizations, civil society groups, and global political activists to apply pressure on Pakistan to ensure Bebigar’s immediate transfer to a hospital, proper medical treatment, and release from what she called “baseless allegations.”

Balochistan continues to grapple with a deepening human rights crisis marked by enforced disappearances, arbitrary detentions, and systemic repression of dissent. Activists warn that such practices not only violate fundamental rights but also fuel the cycle of unrest in the region.
