Baloch Families Continue Struggle for Justice Amid Ongoing Disappearances
Enforced disappearances continue in Balochistan, sparking protests and digital campaigns for missing persons
Balochistan, Oct 12 : The alarming trend of enforced disappearances in Balochistan continues, with two new cases reported this week as families persistently demand the safe return of their missing relatives, according to The Balochistan Post.
In Mashkay, Noor Jahan, son of Lako, was reportedly detained by Pakistani security forces. His family has received no information about his whereabouts or condition, expressing growing distress over the authorities’ silence. Meanwhile, in Zarin Bug, Dasht (Kech district), Khuda Dad Baloch remains missing after being allegedly taken into custody by security personnel. Three others detained alongside him were later released. Khuda Dad’s family revealed that two of his brothers had been killed previously, heightening their fear and anguish.
A rare relief came in Hub Chowki, where Murad Ali, missing since November 2023 following alleged detention, has reportedly returned home. In Awaran, relatives of Sagheer Baloch and Iqrar Baloch staged a public protest demanding their immediate release. They set a 15-day deadline for authorities and warned that demonstrations would intensify if their demands are ignored. The families also alleged threats from senior military officials aimed at halting their protests.
Adding to the outcry, a digital campaign marked the one-year anniversary of the disappearance of brothers Junaid and Yasir Hameed, taken from Hub Chowki and Kalat last October. Human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari described their case as “a symbol of Baloch resistance,” highlighting the prolonged trauma endured by families living under constant uncertainty.
These incidents underscore the continuing human rights crisis in Balochistan and the urgent need for accountability and transparency from authorities.
