Barmer: Ex-Congress President Booked for Alleged Hate Speech

FIR Filed Against Former Barmer Congress Chief Over Controversial Speech

Barmer, Rajasthan: An FIR has been lodged against Fateh Khan, former Barmer District Congress president, for allegedly making inflammatory remarks during a protest on March 13. The demonstration, held at the Barmer district headquarters, opposed rising gas cylinder prices and the India-US trade deal.

During his speech, Khan reportedly targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and suggested that the US President could abduct the Indian PM and take control of the country. A video of the address went viral on social media platforms X and Facebook, prompting legal action.

Advocate Lalu Singh Sodha filed a formal complaint, claiming the remarks spread misleading information that could undermine India’s sovereignty, unity, and integrity.

Barmer Kotwali police have taken over the case after a zero FIR was initially filed in Jaisalmer. The FIR includes charges under Section 197(1)(d) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for hate speech affecting national integrity, along with Sections 152 and 196, related to acts against sovereignty and promotion of enmity between groups. An investigation is now underway.
