BCCI Condoles Death of Mizoram Cricketer K Lalremruata
Cricket community in Mizoram and BCCI pay tribute to K Lalremruata after sudden demise during local tournament
Aizawl, Jan 09 — The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday expressed deep sorrow over the passing of K Lalremruata, a former Mizoram cricketer who collapsed during a local cricket match and could not be revived.
The incident occurred during the Khaled Memorial 2nd Division Screening Tournament match between Venghnuai Raiders CC and Chawnpui ILMOV CC at Sihhmui, near Aizawl. Lalremruata, representing Venghnuai Raiders, complained of chest pain while returning to the pavilion after batting and collapsed shortly afterward.
“Deeply saddened by the passing of Mizoram cricketer K Lalremruata. He proudly represented Mizoram in the Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The BCCI extends heartfelt condolences, thoughts, and prayers to his family, friends, and the Mizoram cricket community,” the BCCI Domestic account said on social media.
The Cricket Association of Mizoram (CAM) confirmed that the 38-year-old suffered a stroke, calling his death a major loss to Mizoram cricket. Lalremruata had represented Mizoram twice in the Ranji Trophy and seven times in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, besides playing for several local clubs.
Following his passing, CAM cancelled all scheduled matches for the day, including fixtures in the 2nd Division Screening Tournament at SCG, the 3rd Division Screening Tournament semi-finals at Lawipu Playground, and the Samagra Inter-School Cricket Tournament in Mualpui.
Mizoram Sports and Youth Services Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar also expressed grief, saying, “He experienced breathing difficulties during the match. My heartfelt condolences go out to his bereaved family, friends, and members of the sporting fraternity during this difficult time.”
Lalremruata, a wicketkeeper, made his first-class debut for Mizoram against Meghalaya in 2018 and last appeared in domestic cricket in 2022 against Nagaland. He had also served on Mizoram’s Senior Tournament Committee, contributing to the development of cricket in the state.
