BCCI Declares ₹7.5 Crore Cash Incentive for U-19 World Champions
Unbeaten campaign and record breaking final against England earn young champions major cash incentive
India, Feb 07 : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has declared a cash prize of ₹7.5 crore for the Indian Under-19 team following their emphatic victory in the 2026 ICC Under-19 World Cup final against England.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia lauded the squad for its flawless run through the tournament and the commanding performance in the title clash. He said the achievement had made both the cricket board and the nation proud, highlighting the team’s consistency and dominance on the global stage.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the young cricketers, praising their skill and determination throughout the competition. He noted that the triumph would motivate aspiring athletes across the country and wished the players success in their future careers.
India secured the championship with a comprehensive 100-run win in Harare, Zimbabwe, capturing a record-extending sixth Under-19 crown. Opting to bat first, the team piled up a formidable 411/9, powered by Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s explosive 175 off just 80 deliveries, an innings studded with 15 boundaries and as many sixes. Captain Ayush Mhatre chipped in with a steady half-century, while Abhigyan Kundu added valuable runs in the middle order.
Chasing a daunting target of 412, England mounted resistance through Caleb Falconer’s impressive 115, but the total proved out of reach as India sealed a memorable victory.
The final also witnessed a new benchmark in Youth ODI history, with India smashing 31 sixes—surpassing the previous record of 23 in a summit clash.
With this latest success, India adds the 2026 title to its previous wins in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018 and 2022, further cementing its stature as a powerhouse in age-group cricket.
