BCCI to Honour Rahul Dravid with Lifetime Achievement Award for Indian Cricket Contribution: Report

Former India captain and coach set to be recognised at BCCI’s Naman Awards for his lasting impact on the game

India, Mar 12 : Former India captain Rahul Dravid is expected to be honoured with the Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual Naman Awards organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, according to a media report. The recognition highlights his outstanding contribution to Indian cricket both as a player and later as a coach.

Dravid was a key figure in India’s batting line-up from the late 1990s to the early 2010s. Often called “The Wall,” he was part of the celebrated batting quartet alongside Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman that shaped India’s success across formats during that period.

Over a 16-year international career, Dravid represented India in 509 matches across formats. In Test cricket, he amassed 13,288 runs in 164 matches, including 36 centuries. In One Day Internationals, he scored 10,889 runs in 344 games with 12 centuries and 83 half-centuries, making him one of the few Indian batters to cross the 10,000-run mark in both Tests and ODIs.

After retiring in 2012, Dravid transitioned into coaching and played a major role in nurturing young talent through India’s Under-19 and ‘A’ teams. He later became head coach of the national side in 2021, succeeding Ravi Shastri. During his tenure, India reached the final of the 2023 Cricket World Cup and lifted the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title.

Dravid stepped down from the role after the triumph, with Gautam Gambhir taking over the position. Gambhir later credited Dravid’s work in building a strong foundation for the team while dedicating a tournament victory to him.

Reports also indicate that former India women’s captain Mithali Raj will receive a lifetime honour, while young batter Shubman Gill is likely to be named cricketer of the year. The Mumbai Cricket Association is expected to be recognised as the top domestic cricket body.
