PM Modi Assures J&K: Promises Will Be Fulfilled at the Right Time
Sonamarg, Jan 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed his commitment to the promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that “right things will happen at the right time.” Speaking at a public meeting after inaugurating the strategically significant Z-Morh tunnel in Sonamarg, Modi assured the audience of his vision for Jammu and Kashmir’s prosperity and development, while avoiding direct mention of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s call for restoring statehood to the region.
“You have to trust that this is Modi, and he keeps his promises. There is a right time for everything, and right things will happen at the right time,” the Prime Minister declared, striking a confident tone during his address.
Highlighting the region’s integral role in India’s heritage and progress, PM Modi referred to Jammu and Kashmir as the “crown of the country” and expressed his commitment to making it “beautiful and prosperous.”
“There is a visible atmosphere of peace in Jammu and Kashmir, and its positive impact is evident in the thriving tourism sector. Kashmir is writing a new saga of development today,” he remarked.
He also announced that the Kashmir Valley would soon be connected by train, adding to the region’s ongoing infrastructural transformation. “The enthusiasm among the people for these developments reflects their aspirations for growth,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister paid heartfelt tributes to the seven individuals who lost their lives in a terror attack near the Z-Morh tunnel in October last year. He extended his condolences to their families and reiterated his government’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
PM Modi inaugurated the Rs 2,700 crore Z-Morh tunnel project, a 6.5-kilometer-long, two-lane bi-directional road tunnel that includes a parallel 7.5-meter escape passage for emergencies.
Situated at an altitude of over 8,650 feet above sea level, the tunnel is designed to ensure all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Sonamarg, a route frequently disrupted by landslides and avalanches. The project will not only improve year-round access to Sonamarg but also boost tourism in the region by making the picturesque destination accessible during the winter months.
Following the inauguration, PM Modi inspected the tunnel and interacted with project officials and construction workers, commending their dedication and resilience in completing the project under harsh conditions.
The event was attended by prominent leaders, including Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Modi’s visit, his first to the region since the assembly elections in September-October last year, underscored the central government’s focus on advancing infrastructure and fostering growth in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Z-Morh tunnel is a key step in transforming connectivity and enabling year-round access to strategic and tourist locations in Jammu and Kashmir. Alongside ongoing development initiatives, the project reflects PM Modi’s broader vision of integrating the region into India’s growth story.
