Bengal BJP’s Second Supplementary List Out, Candidates Yet to Be Disclosed
Around 12 lakh entries published, but clarity missing on how many cleared court scrutiny
Kolkata, Mar 28: West Bengal’s second supplementary voter list was released late Friday night, featuring nearly 12 lakh names. However, uncertainty continues over how many of these entries have successfully passed judicial verification.
State Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Agarwal stated that nearly 37 lakh out of 60 lakh pending cases have been resolved so far. He added that once the final list is received from the Calcutta High Court, the Election Commission requires four to six hours to process and upload the data online.
The updated voter rolls are available on official Election Commission platforms, including the voter portal, state CEO website, and the ECINET mobile application. Physical copies will also be displayed at polling booths and made accessible through district election authorities.
Voters whose names are missing from the list can file appeals within 15 days, either online or offline, before designated appellate tribunals. Another supplementary list is expected to be published on April 3.
According to Election Commission sources, nearly 35 to 40 percent of individuals whose documents were reviewed by judicial officers have reportedly been excluded from the rolls.
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has approached the Calcutta High Court seeking daily publication of supplementary lists. The party raised concerns that the earlier list contained significantly fewer names than the number of cases reportedly resolved, leaving lakhs of applicants unaccounted for.
The TMC also highlighted that several of its candidates are still uncertain about their voter status. It further pointed to the limited time available for filing appeals, given the April 7 deadline for finalising voter lists ahead of the first phase of elections.
On Friday, Chief Justice Sujoy Paul chaired a high-level meeting with senior state and election officials to review the progress and address concerns related to the publication of the supplementary voter rolls.
