Bhim Army Leader Chandra Shekhar Aazad Survives Assassination Attempt in Deoband
28-06-2023 : On a fateful day in Deoband, Uttar Pradesh, Bhim Army chief Chandra Shekhar Aazad became the target of a violent attack as unidentified assailants opened fire on his car. The incident occurred when Aazad, a prominent Dalit leader, was leaving after attending a ‘terhavin’ ritual at a supporter’s home in Saharanpur district as per media reports. The assailants, traveling in a car with a Haryana registration number, fired multiple shots at Aazad’s SUV, with one bullet grazing his abdomen. Fortunately, he was rushed to the hospital promptly, and his condition is reported to be stable.
Superintendent of Police (City) Abimanyu Manglik confirmed the details of the incident, revealing that the police have sealed the district borders and launched a massive operation to track down the assailants and their vehicle. The Saharanpur police have also sought assistance from neighboring districts in their pursuit of the attackers.
Chandra Shekhar Aazad, the national president of the Azad Samaj Party, founded the political party in March 2020. The attack on him has been widely condemned, with political leaders expressing their outrage and concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh. Akhilesh Yadav, the president of the Samajwadi Party and former chief minister, denounced the incident on Twitter, criticizing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for failing to ensure the safety of elected representatives. He expressed his apprehension about the safety of the general public under BJP rule, emphasizing the need for improved governance.

He pointed out the audacity of criminals in the state, who seem to be operating without any restraint. He further highlighted the challenging situation faced by the opposition in Uttar Pradesh, as they have become targets not only of criminal elements but also the government. Yadav’s remarks underscored the gravity of the attack on the Bhim Army chief, portraying it as a reflection of the prevailing law and order situation in the state. He urged the government to take immediate action to address the alarming state of affairs.
