Bihar Government Requests CBI Investigation Into NEET Student’s Death

Special Investigation Team probes case amid suspensions and ongoing DNA analysis

Bihar, Jan 31 : The Bihar government, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has requested the Central Government to hand over the investigation into the death of a NEET aspirant at a Patna hostel on January 11 to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary emphasized the need for a transparent and thorough investigation, stating, “Honorable Chief Minister Shri @NitishKumar ji has urged the Government of India to transfer the probe of the NEET student’s death (Case No.-14/26) to the CBI. The incident must be thoroughly uncovered in a transparent and just manner.”

The Patna Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine the case. Forensic analysis has revealed traces of human sperm on an undergarment allegedly worn by the deceased, and a DNA profile is being prepared. The DNA will be matched with the arrested suspect and other individuals identified by the SIT to uncover further details.

In connection with procedural lapses, Patna Police have suspended two officers: Roshni Kumari, Station House Officer of Chitragupta Nagar Police Station, and Hemant Jha, Additional SHOs of Kadamkuan Police Station. The suspensions follow delayed action and a failure to gather intelligence in a timely manner.

Parents of students gathered outside the hostel in January, claiming that authorities were uncooperative and that the incident disrupted the academic progress of the students.

The investigation continues amid public scrutiny, with authorities under pressure to ensure accountability and justice for the deceased NEET aspirant.
