Bihar Polls: Mahagathbandhan Holds Press Conference as Tejashwi Yadav Posters Adorn Venue
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav promises Jeevika Didis enhanced salary, allowances, and insurance; NDA hits back
Patna, Oct 24: Ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the Mahagathbandhan will hold a press conference on Thursday to announce the final configuration of the alliance. The venue has been decked with boards and posters featuring Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Raghopur constituency candidate Tejashwi Yadav, signaling the alliance’s show of strength.
The Bihar polls are set to witness a face-off between the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Mahagathbandhan, which includes RJD, Congress, CPI-ML led by Deepankar Bhattacharya, CPI, CPM, and Mukesh Sahani’s Vikasheel Insaan Party (VIP).
Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot, along with AICC Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru, met with RJD leaders Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday, assuring there is “no rift” within the alliance. Gehlot said, “The INDIA alliance in Bihar is fully united and is contesting the elections with strength. Tomorrow, the full situation will be clarified in the Mahagathbandhan’s press conference.” While discussions on ‘friendly fights’ in certain constituencies persist, Gehlot indicated it is not a major concern.
Addressing development promises, Tejashwi Yadav announced that Jeevika Didis, the community mobilisers, would be made permanent government employees under a Mahagathbandhan government. He assured a salary hike to Rs 30,000 per month, interest-free credit for the next two years, additional allowances of Rs 2,000, and insurance coverage of Rs 5 lakh for all cadres.
The NDA quickly responded, dismissing Tejashwi’s promises. BJP MP Nityanand Rai said, “There is no substance in whatever announcements they make. They are meant to spread confusion. The happiness in the lives of Jeevika Didis comes from PM Narendra Modi and CM Nitish Kumar. Tejashwi Yadav is telling white lies.” He asserted that the people of Bihar have already decided to form an NDA government, emphasizing the reach of PM Modi’s development schemes across the state.
