Bihar Records Historic 65.08% Voter Turnout in Phase 1 of Assembly Polls: EC

Muzaffarpur and Samastipur lead with over 70% polling, women voters play a key role in historic participation.

Patna, Nov 8: Bihar witnessed a record voter turnout of 65.08 per cent in the first phase of the assembly elections, marking the highest polling percentage in the state’s electoral history, according to the Election Commission.

The polling, held on November 6, covered 45,341 polling stations, including 36,733 in rural areas, and saw voters deciding the fate of 1,314 candidates  1,192 men and 122 women.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Bihar, this historic turnout represents a 7.79% increase from the 2020 assembly polls, which had recorded 57.29% polling.

Out of 3.75 crore eligible voters, 1.98 crore were men and 1.76 crore women, with women showing a strong presence at polling booths.

District-wise data showed Muzaffarpur (71.81%) and Samastipur (71.74%) leading the participation charts. Other high-turnout districts included Madhepura (69.59%), Saharsa (69.38%), Vaishali (68.50%), and Khagaria (67.90%).

In contrast, Patna recorded 59.02%, while Lakhisarai and Munger registered 64.98% and 62.74% respectively, with Siwan at 60.61%.

The remaining 122 constituencies of the 243-member assembly will go to polls on November 11, with vote counting scheduled for November 14.

This unprecedented turnout, driven largely by enthusiastic participation from women and first-time voters, has set a new benchmark for electoral engagement in Bihar.
