Bihar to Remove Over 3,000 Teachers Over Fake Degrees
Vigilance probe into recruitments between 2006 and 2015 uncovers forged certificates and fake educational qualifications
PATNA, July 10: The Bihar government has ordered action against more than 3,000 government teachers accused of obtaining appointments using fake degrees and forged educational certificates, Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari said on Friday.
The decision follows a detailed investigation by the State Vigilance Bureau into teacher recruitments conducted between 2006 and 2015. The probe reportedly uncovered irregularities involving fake educational institutions and fabricated academic documents used to qualify for teaching positions.
The Education Department has been directed to initiate the dismissal process against the accused teachers. Officials said several First Information Reports have already been registered based on the findings of the investigation, with the accused facing further departmental and legal proceedings.
The government has also decided to recover salaries and honorariums paid to the teachers during their period of service, along with applicable interest, officials said.
The investigation found that some candidates had submitted certificates issued by institutions that were not genuine, while others allegedly relied on forged educational qualifications to secure government employment.
Officials said action will not be limited to teachers currently in service. Those who resigned before disciplinary proceedings began may also face departmental and legal measures based on the findings.
The state government described the move as part of its effort to strengthen accountability in public recruitment and prevent fraudulent qualifications from entering the education system.
The large-scale action is expected to intensify scrutiny of teacher credentials and recruitment records while reinforcing verification procedures for government appointments.
