BITS Pilani Expands Full Tuition Scholarships to Top 1,000 BITSAT Rankers from 2027
Eligible students from families earning up to Rs 20 lakh annually will receive a complete four year tuition fee waiver, provided they maintain a minimum CGPA of 7.5.
NEW DELHI, Nov 3: Students aspiring to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate law courses will get additional time to apply for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2027, following an extension of the registration deadline by the Consortium of National Law Universities.
The consortium has extended the last date for submitting online applications to November 7, 2026, providing relief to candidates who were unable to complete the registration process within the earlier deadline. The decision is expected to benefit students who are still arranging the necessary documents, completing application formalities or reviewing their eligibility details before submitting their forms.
The Common Law Admission Test is one of India’s major national-level entrance examinations for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes offered by participating National Law Universities (NLUs). Thousands of candidates appear for the examination every year, making it an important step for students seeking admission to professional legal education.
The deadline extension gives applicants a few additional days to complete their applications through the official CLAT admission portal. Candidates are advised not to wait until the final hours, as technical difficulties, payment-related issues or incomplete information could create problems during the submission process.
The examination is conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities, an organisation established by participating NLUs to coordinate the admission process and strengthen legal education across the country.
For undergraduate admissions, CLAT provides an opportunity to seek entry into five-year integrated law programmes, including BA LLB, BBA LLB, BCom LLB and other courses offered by participating institutions. Postgraduate candidates can apply for admission to the one-year LLM programme, subject to the eligibility requirements prescribed by individual universities.
The entrance test plays an important role in determining admissions because candidates are assessed on their understanding, reasoning and analytical abilities. It is designed to evaluate skills considered essential for studying law, rather than simply testing the memorisation of legal provisions.
With the registration window remaining open until November 7, applicants should carefully review the information entered in their forms before completing the final submission.
The examination will take place on December 6, 2026, in offline, pen-and-paper mode. Both undergraduate and postgraduate examinations will be conducted on the same day. The test will facilitate admissions for the 2027–28 academic session.

Application Fee and Registration Procedure
Candidates must complete the online registration and pay the prescribed examination fee before the revised closing date. The application charges are:
– General, OBC and other applicable categories: Rs 4,000.
– SC, ST, BPL and PwD candidates: Rs 3,500.
Applicants can complete the process by visiting the official website of the Consortium of National Law Universities.
The registration procedure involves creating an account using a valid mobile number and email address, filling in personal and academic information, selecting examination centre preferences, uploading the required documents and paying the application fee.
After submitting the form, candidates should download the confirmation page and retain a copy of the payment receipt for future reference.
The consortium has advised applicants to ensure that all information is entered correctly. Incomplete applications or forms without successful fee payment may not be accepted.
Examination Pattern and Preparation
CLAT UG will assess candidates across five major areas: English Language, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques.
The undergraduate examination will consist of 120 multiple-choice questions. Candidates will receive one mark for every correct response, while 0.25 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer.
With the examination scheduled for December 6, applicants have a limited period to strengthen their preparation. Students should focus on reading comprehension, current affairs, legal aptitude and analytical reasoning while practising previous examination papers.
Time management will also be important, as candidates must complete the question paper within the prescribed duration. Regular mock tests can help aspirants understand the examination format, identify weaker areas and improve accuracy.
For postgraduate applicants, preparation should include a thorough understanding of legal subjects, constitutional developments, jurisprudence and other areas covered under the prescribed syllabus.
The examination will be conducted at designated centres across the country. Candidates should regularly visit the official portal for updates concerning admit cards, examination instructions and other admission-related announcements.
Opportunity for Aspiring Law Students
The extension is significant for students who intend to pursue legal education at some of India’s recognised national law institutions. Admission through CLAT provides an opportunity to study in an academically competitive environment and gain exposure to different areas of law.
Graduates of law programmes can explore careers in litigation, corporate legal services, judicial examinations, public administration, legal research, academia and policy development.
The additional registration period is therefore an important opportunity for candidates who have not yet completed their applications.
Students should remember that November 7 is the revised deadline and that the application process must be completed, including fee payment, by 11:59 pm.
With the entrance examination approaching, applicants are encouraged to finish registration early and devote the remaining preparation period to revision and practice.
The consortium’s decision to extend the deadline provides candidates with additional flexibility while keeping the examination schedule unchanged. Aspiring law students should make use of the extended opportunity and follow official notifications to avoid missing any subsequent admission requirements.
