BJP MLAs Marshalled Out of J&K Assembly Amid Uproar Over Corruption, Flood Relief Issues

Protest breaks out after Speaker rejects adjournment motion on floods; BJP accuses government of evading discussion on corruption and disaster relief

Srinagar, Oct 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly witnessed high drama on Thursday as three BJP legislators were marshalled out after staging a protest in the well of the House over alleged corruption in the Roads and Buildings Department and the government’s refusal to discuss flood relief measures.
The uproar began during the Question Hour when BJP members pressed for a discussion on the recent floods, claiming they had submitted a fresh adjournment motion on the issue. However, the Speaker ruled that once an adjournment motion has been rejected, it cannot be reintroduced on the same subject.
Dissatisfied with the ruling, Leader of Opposition Sunil Kumar Sharma accused the government of deliberately avoiding debate on flood-related damages.
“Every part of Jammu and Kashmir suffered due to the floods. People expected that their grievances would be heard, but no discussion has been allowed,” Sharma said, urging that the Question Hour be suspended to take up the issue of flood victims.
The situation escalated when Sharma waved a newspaper report alleging corruption in the Roads & Buildings Department, sparking heated exchanges and slogan-shouting between the treasury benches and the opposition.
Despite repeated warnings from the Speaker, the protesting BJP legislators refused to return to their seats. The uproar forced the marshals to escort RS Pathani, Sunil Bhardwaj, and Surinder Kumar out of the House amid loud protests.
The ruckus disrupted proceedings for several minutes before order was restored. The incident highlighted growing tensions between the opposition and the government over accountability, corruption, and disaster response in the Union Territory.
