BJP slams CM Omar Abdullah for defending anarchist AAP MLA: Zorawar
Jammu, 10 September 2025:The Jammu and Kashmir BJP today strongly condemned Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his government for defending AAP MLA Mehraj Malik, who has been detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
In a statement, J&K BJP spokesman Zorawar Singh Jamwal described Malik as an anarchist who has consistently demonstrated a disregard for the law and civil society norms. He drew attention towards Mehraj Malik’s long history of misconduct, citing at least 18 FIRs registered against him in various police stations for offenses including using unparliamentary language against women and breaking the law.
“It’s not just a single incident where he misbehaved with the District Magistrate and hurled abuses and filth against him or his family members. This AAP MLA has a consistent record of lawlessness and disregard for authority,” Zorawar Singh Jamwal said.
The BJP spokesman questioned the NC government and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah ‘s stance on Malik’s remarks glorifying dreaded terrorist commanders responsible for innocent killings. “Do Omar Abdullah, his government, and his party National Conference justify Mehraj Malik’s actions?” Zorawar Singh Jamwal asked. He also condemned Malik’s support for terrorist Masood Azhar and his attempts to unleash terror in Jammu and Kashmir.
Zorawar Singh Jamwal expressed shame that the Chief Minister would defend Malik, who recently insulted a lady doctor with derogatory remarks. “It’s a matter of shame that the Chief Minister comes forward to defend an anarchist like Mehraj Malik,” he said and urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to see through the hypocrisy of the NC government, which claims to be a champion of peace and development while defending those who seek to undermine.
Zorawar Singh Jamwal reiterated that the BJP will continue to stand for the rule of law and the dignity of citizens of Jammu Kashmir by exposing anarchist elements like Mehraj Malik as well as hypocrisy of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and ruling NC.
