Brazil, Nov 6 : In a bizarre turn of events, Brazilian model and influencer Larissa found herself unexpectedly in the spotlight of Indian politics when her photograph appeared on multiple voter IDs in Haryana during a press conference held by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Gandhi was addressing alleged voter fraud in the state, pointing to several “H-Files” he claimed contained manipulated or duplicate voter records. Among them, a repeated photo of a young woman appeared under names such as Seema, Sweety, Saraswati, Rashmi, and Vimla across at least ten polling booths. Gandhi estimated that up to 25 lakh entries could be fake and questioned the authenticity of the voter list.
The revelation that the image belonged to Larissa, a Brazilian influencer, caused global amusement. In a video posted online, Larissa reacted with disbelief and humor: “They’re using an old picture of me for elections in India showing me as Indian. What a mess! What madness! What world do we live in?” she exclaimed, noting that the photo was taken when she was around 18 or 20.
The incident went viral on social media, with users creating memes and expressing disbelief at how a foreign influencer’s photo ended up on Indian voter IDs.
While the situation sparked laughter worldwide, Rahul Gandhi’s press conference focused on serious allegations against the BJP regarding electoral manipulation. He claimed Congress narrowly lost the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections by 22,000 votes due to irregularities.
However, the Election Commission dismissed the claims, stating no formal objections had been raised during polling. Officials clarified that any discrepancies in the voter list did not indicate systematic fraud.
