Carlos Alcaraz Confirms US Open Return After Four Month Injury Layoff

The seven time Grand Slam champion is set to make his competitive comeback at Flushing Meadows after recovering from a wrist injury.

India, Aug. 21: Carlos Alcaraz has confirmed that he will return to competitive tennis at the upcoming US Open after spending nearly four months on the sidelines with a wrist injury. The Spaniard made the announcement on Thursday, ending uncertainty over his participation in the final Grand Slam tournament of the season.

The 23 year old had been forced to miss several major events during his recovery, including the Barcelona Open, French Open and Wimbledon. He also withdrew from hard court tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati as he continued to work towards full fitness.

Alcaraz had initially hoped to return at the Cincinnati Open but decided against rushing his comeback. He instead increased the intensity of his training gradually before confirming his participation at the US Open.

The tournament holds special significance for the Spaniard, who won his maiden Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows in 2022. He will now look to regain his rhythm and competitive sharpness after a prolonged absence from the tour.

The return also adds considerable interest to the men’s draw, with Alcaraz expected to be among the leading contenders if he can reproduce his best form.
