Case Against Rahul Gandhi Transferred to Crime Branch Amid Parliament Scuffle Allegations

NEW DELHI, Dec 20: The Delhi Police transferred the case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to its Crime Branch on Friday for further investigation. This move comes a day after an FIR was registered against Gandhi, accusing him of “physical assault and incitement” during a scuffle on the Parliament premises, a senior officer confirmed.

The incident unfolded on Thursday during a heated face-off between opposition MPs and members of the ruling NDA at the Parliament entry steps. The confrontation, reportedly triggered by allegations of disrespect toward Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, escalated into a scuffle that left former Minister Pratap Chandra Sarangi and BJP MP Mukesh Rajput injured.

The FIR against Gandhi, filed at the Parliament Street Police Station, includes charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), such as:

    • Section 117: Voluntarily causing grievous hurt
    • Section 115: Voluntarily causing hurt
    • Section 125: Acts endangering life or personal safety of others
    • Section 131: Use of criminal force
    • Section 351: Criminal intimidation
    • Section 3(5): Common intention

The Delhi Police confirmed that the case has been handed over to the specialized investigative unit of the Crime Branch, citing the sensitive nature of the allegations and the high-profile individuals involved.

Sources suggest the scuffle originated during a protest led by opposition MPs, including Gandhi, against what they described as deliberate attempts to undermine Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy. The ruling party, however, refuted the claims, accusing the opposition of resorting to disruptive tactics and physical aggression.

The Crime Branch is expected to probe the incident thoroughly, including reviewing CCTV footage from the Parliament premises and interviewing witnesses from both sides. Political observers believe this development could intensify the ongoing tensions between the government and the opposition, with both camps trading accusations over the incident.

While the Congress has strongly defended Rahul Gandhi, dismissing the allegations as politically motivated, the BJP has demanded accountability, emphasizing the need to maintain decorum in the country’s highest legislative body.

As the investigation unfolds, all eyes remain on the Crime Branch to determine the facts surrounding the controversial scuffle that has further deepened the political divide in Parliament.
