CBSE Reaffirms Transparent Class 12 Evaluation, Continues Re-Evaluation Process

Board says digital evaluation system ensures uniform and transparent assessment amid concerns over marks in science subjects

New Delhi, May 15: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday defended its on-screen marking system for Class 12 examinations, asserting that the digital evaluation process was introduced to ensure fairness, transparency and consistency in assessment across the country.

The clarification came after several posts surfaced on social media questioning the marking pattern in subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics following the declaration of Class 12 results earlier this week.

In a statement posted on X, the board said the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system was designed to maintain objectivity and uniformity while evaluating answer scripts across regions and subjects.

According to CBSE, the system strengthens the long-standing practice of stepwise marking by enabling examiners to assess answers in a structured and standardised manner. The board said the mechanism helps reduce inconsistencies and improves the overall reliability of the evaluation process.

CBSE also reiterated that students who are dissatisfied with their scores will continue to have access to the re-evaluation process this year.

The board said candidates can obtain copies of their evaluated answer sheets and seek corrective measures if they identify any discrepancy during verification.

It added that all requests would be processed through the prescribed mechanism, reaffirming its commitment to a fair, equitable and accountable examination system.

The CBSE had announced the Class 12 results on Wednesday, with over 85 per cent students clearing the examination. However, the overall pass percentage recorded a decline of more than three percentage points compared to last year.

This year also marked the first full-scale implementation of the On-Screen Marking system for evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets.
