CDSCO Warns Against Indiscriminate Use of Painkillers and Antibiotics

NEW DELHI, Sept 22: The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has cautioned healthcare professionals and pharmacists against the indiscriminate use of painkillers and antibiotics, citing potential risks to kidney health and the growing burden of chronic kidney disease.
The drug regulator has advised medical professionals to exercise greater caution while recommending medicines that could affect kidney function, particularly when used unnecessarily or for prolonged periods.
The warning highlights concerns over the widespread use of non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which are commonly taken to manage pain and inflammation. Certain antibiotics can also pose risks to the kidneys, especially when used without appropriate medical supervision.
The advisory comes amid growing attention to the prevention of chronic kidney disease and the need for responsible medicine use. Healthcare providers and pharmacists have been urged to discourage self medication and ensure that medicines are used only when clinically appropriate.
