CEC Gyanesh Kumar to Lead Delegation for Bihar Poll Preparedness Review

Election Commission delegation holds review in Patna; over 400 officers briefed as State gears up for polls

Patna, Oct 4: A high level Election Commission of India (ECI) delegation, led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, arrived in Patna on Friday to assess poll preparedness for the upcoming Bihar Assembly Elections 2025. The team also includes Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.

In an official post on X, the Commission confirmed: “ECI delegation led by CEC Gyanesh Kumar and ECs Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi arrives in Patna today to review poll preparedness for forthcoming Bihar Assembly Elections.”

Ahead of their Bihar visit, the ECI delegation conducted a detailed briefing for General, Police, and Expenditure Observers, who will be deployed as Central Observers for the Bihar elections and bye-elections in other states. The session, held at IIIDEM in New Delhi, was attended by 425 officers, including 287 IAS, 58 IPS, and 80 officers from IRS/IRAS/ICAS and allied services.

Addressing the gathering, CEC Gyanesh Kumar described the Observers as “beacons of democracy”. He urged them to act as the Commission’s “eyes and ears” by strictly enforcing election laws and ensuring free, fair, and impartial polls. Observers were instructed to remain accessible to political parties, candidates, and voters, while also inspecting polling stations to oversee the implementation of voter-friendly measures.

The Election Commission appoints Central Observers under Article 324 of the Constitution and Section 20B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, to ensure transparent and efficient management of the electoral process.

With the Bihar Assembly polls due later this year, the official election dates are expected to be announced soon.
