Centre Approves 60-Day Kerosene Allocation to Ease LPG Burden Across States

60-day emergency allocation aims to ensure uninterrupted cooking and lighting access

NEW DELHI, Mar 30: In a short-term relief measure, the Central government has sanctioned an emergency allocation of Public Distribution System (PDS) kerosene to States and Union Territories to help households manage rising dependence on LPG.

As per the official directive, the provision will remain in effect for 60 days and is designed to support domestic energy needs, particularly for cooking and lighting. Authorities stated that the decision comes in response to growing pressure on LPG supplies in certain regions.

Under the plan, kerosene distribution will be temporarily reinstated in 21 States and Union Territories that had earlier phased out PDS subsidised kerosene. The move seeks to bridge the gap for families facing difficulties in accessing or affording LPG.

Officials emphasized that the initiative is purely interim and aimed at ensuring that essential household fuel requirements are met without disruption during the current period of demand imbalance.
