Centre Expands AI-Based Screening to Strengthen Early Disease Detection
Government scales up artificial intelligence-driven diagnostic tools across public health facilities to improve early identification of critical illnesses.
NEW DELHI, Aug 07 : The Centre has accelerated the deployment of artificial intelligence-based diagnostic systems in government healthcare institutions as part of its strategy to strengthen preventive healthcare and improve early disease detection. The initiative aims to assist doctors in identifying medical conditions at an earlier stage, enabling quicker treatment and better patient outcomes.
Health officials said the technology is being integrated into screening programmes for diseases such as tuberculosis, diabetic retinopathy, cervical cancer and other chronic conditions. AI-assisted tools are expected to support healthcare professionals by analysing medical images and patient data with greater speed and accuracy.
The expansion is also intended to reduce the burden on overworked healthcare facilities, particularly in rural and underserved regions where specialist doctors are often unavailable. By enabling faster diagnosis, authorities hope to improve treatment success rates and minimise delays in patient care.
The government is working with research institutions, medical colleges and technology partners to ensure the systems meet clinical standards while safeguarding patient data. Officials stressed that AI will complement doctors rather than replace medical expertise.
Public health experts believe the wider adoption of digital technologies can significantly strengthen India’s healthcare delivery system, provided adequate training and monitoring mechanisms remain in place. The programme is expected to expand further over the coming months as more hospitals adopt AI-enabled healthcare solutions.
