Centre’s failure to address Ladakh’s identity, land, and job concerns led to crisis: Congress

Jammu, Sept 25 : Senior Congress leaders have expressed great concern over the situation that emerged in Leh (Ladakh) yesterday due to the utter failure of the BJP Govt at the Centre and appealed to the people to maintain peace and normalcy and resolve their legitimate demands through peaceful dialogue.

 In a joint statement, several senior Congress leaders said that the situation that emerged in Leh is quite worry some, as the people of Ladakh are peace-loving in nature, great patriotic and have always fought bravely against the misadventures and mischiefs of neighboring country.

The Centre Govt. has been continuously ignoring their legitimate demands raised by them all these years through their peaceful and democratic mode but the centre government and UT administration adopted the strategy to ignore and exhaust the peaceful agitators instead of acceding and resolving their genuine demands through dialogue and discussions which led to anger, frustration amongst the yout,h resulting into the situation witnessed yesterday. They termed it very unfortunate and worried some, stating that violence has no place in a democracy and appealed to people, especially the yout,h to maintain peace and restore calm and normalcy and resolve their genuine issues through peaceful struggle and dialogue.

Sr. Congress leaders accused BJP and Centre Govt. of ignoring the legitimate demands of peaceful people, seeking safeguard, identity, culture, land and jobs with the limited resources and other political rights and status leading to the emergence of present situation and now indulging into blame game as part of their diversionary tactics from the real issues raised by the people and their failure to deal with  situation. It is also an insult to the peaceful people of Ladakh, they added.

The Congress President, Shri Malikarjun Kharge and  LoP Shri Rahul Gandhi had written to the Prime Minister on 17th July 2025, reminding him of the promises made to the people of J&K regarding the restoration of statehood and had urged him to fulfill the commitment with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, extending full support to the genuine demand of the people of both UTs.

The party also condemned the use of excessive force, killing 4 persons and injuring 89 others, which is very unfortunate and the failure of the administration to visualize the situation in advance and take precautionary measures to check the loss of lives and property..

They expressed sympathy with the families of those killed and injured and extended full support to their peaceful struggle and genuine demands.
