Pargwal and Jourian/Jammu, 08-07-2024: Rakesh Koul, Ex-Sarpanch and Senior Vice President of the JKNPF, recently visited several flood-affected villages situated along the Chenab River. The river, having risen above the danger mark, has wreaked havoc on agricultural lands on both sides, causing significant distress to the local farming communities.
During his visit to the villages of Indri Patan and Fathi Kotli in the Pargwal and Jourian areas, Rakesh Koul was able to witness firsthand the extensive damage to crops and land. The once lush and productive fields now lay in ruin, submerged under water, highlighting the severity of the flood’s impact on the agrarian livelihoods of these communities. In engaging with local residents, Koul gained valuable insights into the hardships they are facing and assessed the immediate needs of the community.
Throughout his interactions, Rakesh Koul noted that despite the challenging circumstances, the local populace, in collaboration with the District Administration, local police, and the Border Security Force (BSF), are prepared to handle the evolving situation. Their readiness includes potential rescue operations, which could become necessary should the flooding worsen. Puran Singh, a resident of Indri Patan, conveyed his deep gratitude towards the District Administration for their prompt and efficient response to the crisis, acknowledging their efforts in mitigating the disaster’s impact.
Rakesh Koul extended his heartfelt thanks to the District Administration as well, praising their swift and effective action in addressing the immediate needs brought about by the flooding. He emphasized the critical importance of continued vigilance and cooperation among all stakeholders. The coordinated efforts of the administration, local authorities, and community members are essential to ensuring the safety and well-being of those affected by this natural disaster.
Koul’s visit not only provided moral support to the distressed villagers but also highlighted the necessity for ongoing support and resources. He underscored the need for a comprehensive and sustained response to tackle the aftermath of the flooding, which includes not only immediate relief but also long-term rehabilitation and recovery efforts. The community’s resilience, coupled with the concerted efforts of all involved parties, stands as a testament to their collective determination to overcome the adversities brought on by the Chenab River’s flooding.
As the situation continues to evolve, the importance of remaining vigilant and responsive cannot be overstated. The commitment shown by the District Administration and other local bodies in providing timely assistance and resources has been commendable. It is crucial that this momentum is maintained to prevent further losses and to support the affected communities in rebuilding their lives and livelihoods.
